Razr 2022: Motorola confirms battery specs for the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1-powered foldable smartphone
Motorola's announcement of its simultaneous launch for the Moto X30 Pro and Razr 2022 has led to rumors that it would take that opportunity to debut the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC in foldable and non-foldable forms. Now, the OEM has effectively confirmed that this is the case.
Yes, Motorola has finally acknowledged that when consumers want foldable smartphones, they want foldable smartphones with flagship specs. The OEM has also reportedly hinted that the Razr 2022 will also be an upgrade over its 5G predecessor in that it will have an enlarged camera hump with dual circular cut-outs to go with its new external display.
This might be great news for many Razr fans - although leaks pointing to the retention of a sub-3,000mAh battery might still be a cause for concern. However, Motorola China's general manager and often-vocal proponent Chen Jin has now contradicted these rumors with the revelation that the Razr 2022 will in fact have a bigger battery than that - one of 3,500mAh in size.
That may still sound underwhelming, although the executive asserts that this will be more than sufficient for all-day use on the apparently power-sipping clamshell, given the 8+ Gen 1's "excellent energy efficiency". Time and testing might be the measure of that, although even Samsung's fourth-gen Galaxy Flip is said to run on no more than 3,700mAh.
Then again, a number of questions about the upcoming, officially premium, flexible-display device, such as those surrounding its main display, remain. However, at this rate, Motorola just might not keep us waiting until August 2, 2022 to find out.
