ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2: Asus details new 4K 162 Hz monitor with 485 Hz dual mode and USB-C

Asus is gearing up to launch the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 dual-mode 4K monitor, aka the XG27UCGR. The model was announced at CES 2026 alongside the ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG, which has since been released, and it builds on the XG27UCG from 2024 (curr: $337.99 at Amazon) by offering higher refresh rates at both 4K and 1080p. The monitor has now been listed on the Asus website, pointing to an imminent release.
At its core, the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 is a Fast IPS monitor with a 4K resolution and a 162 Hz native refresh rate. It can also switch to a much faster 485 Hz mode at 1080p, a noticeable step up from the previous XG27UCG's 4K/160 Hz and 1080p/320 Hz DFR modes in terms of gaming performance. That said, it is also listed with a 0.3 ms response time, along with FreeSync Premium and G-Sync support for smooth, tear-free gaming.
With no mini-LED backlighting or local dimming, the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 delivers a relatively modest 1300:1 contrast ratio and up to 600 nits of peak brightness in HDR. It's certified under the DisplayHDR 400 tier and covers 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut along with 130% sRGB. Other features include an anti-glare coating, built-in 4K upscaling with Asus Smart Pixel technology, and both TÜV Flicker-free and TÜV Low Blue Light certifications.
For connectivity, the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 includes DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1 for 4K/120 Hz console gaming, USB-C, and a headphone jack. Sadly, the USB-C port supplies only 15W, which is not enough to charge most laptops. The stand is fully adjustable, though, offering tilt, height, swivel, and pivot.
The Asus ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 (XG27UCGR) is currently listed on the Asus website, but pricing and availability have not been confirmed. For reference, the ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG with 5K/180 Hz and 1440p/330 Hz modes is priced at $849, so this model could land in the $499 to $699 range. That said, the old ROG Strix XG27UCG with 160 Hz refresh rate and 320 Hz mode is available on Amazon for $337.99 (25% off from its $449 list price).
