Philips has launched the Evnia 27M2N5500XD in China, revealing more details about its super high refresh rate gaming monitor. With a 540Hz refresh rate at QHD and a 1,000Hz dual mode, it is faster than the new OLEDs coming out, though there are trade-offs.

Philips has now launched the Evnia 27M2N5500XD in its home market. Another super-high-refresh gaming monitor, this model was showcased late last year in Beijing, at an event hosted by TCL CSOT. According to TCL Central, the monitor uses an improved IPS panel from TCL CSOT known as HFS Shoot, the same panel found on the AOC AGON AGP277QK.

The main draw of the Evnia 27M2N5500XD is its extremely high refresh rate. It defaults to 540Hz (overclocked) at QHD resolution, but dropping the resolution to HD pushes the refresh rate up to 1,000Hz, making it faster than recent 720 Hz OLED monitors such as the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W. Ahead of its global debut, Philips has now shared more details about the monitor.

Rapid refresh rates but unimpressive HDR

As mentioned, the Evnia 27M2N5500XD features a native 2560 x 1440 resolution across a 27-inch panel. It is certified under the VESA DisplayHDR 400 tier and is rated for up to 500 nits of peak brightness in HDR and 350 nits in SDR. Philips also lists a 2000:1 contrast ratio, along with 96% DCI-P3 coverage, 100% sRGB, and 94% Adobe RGB.

For gaming, users can switch between 540Hz at QHD or 1,000Hz at HD (1280 x 720). The monitor has a 1 ms response time, with a 0.3 ms Smart MBR (Motion Blur Reduction) mode, and supports FreeSync VRR. Philips also includes several in-game features such as Smart Sniper, Shadow Boost, and Smart Crosshair, which help improve visibility in darker scenes and aiming accuracy.

Lossless high-refresh-rate gaming with DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20

In terms of connectivity, the Evnia 27M2N5500XD features a DisplayPort 2.1 input with 80 Gbps bandwidth, alongside full 48 Gbps HDMI 2.1 ports and a headphone jack. It also comes with an ergonomic stand with height, swivel, pivot, and tilt adjustments.

Philips has already launched the Evnia 27M2N5500XD in China, with a global release expected later. Meanwhile, its closest alternative, the AOC AGON AGP277QK, has yet to receive a release date. That said, there are still no pricing details for both monitors at this point.
