The AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 5875U is a processor for thin and light laptops based on the Cezanne / Barcelo generation. The R7 5875U integrates all eight cores based on the Zen 3 microarchitecture and is the fastest U-series PRO processor at launch. They are clocked at 2 (guaranteed base clock) to 4.5 GHz (Turbo) and support SMT for a total of 16 processing threads. The chip is manufactured on the modern 7 nm TSMC process.
The PRO CPUs offer additional management and security features. The 5875U is the refresh of the Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U and offers 100 MHz higher clocked CPU cores.
The Zen 3 microarchitecture offers a significantly higher IPC (instructions per clock) compared to Zen 2. For desktop processors AMD claims 19 percent on average and in applications reviews showed around 12% gains at the same clock speed.
With the increased clock speed and IPC improvements thanks to Zen 3, the Ryzen 7 PRO 5875U should be clearly faster than the lower clocked Ryzen 7 4800U.
In addition to the eight CPU cores, the APU also integrates a Radeon RX Vega 8 graphics processor with 8 CUs at up to 2000 MHz. The dual channel memory controller supports DDR4-3200 and energy efficient LPDDR4-4266 RAM. Furthermore, 16 MB level 3 cache (up from 8 MB at the 4800U) can be found on the chip.
The TDP of the APU is specified at 15 Watt (default) and can be configured from 10 to 25 Watt by the laptop vendor (most chips are configured higher than 15 Watt). That means the chip is intended for thin and light laptops (but with fans).
The Intel Core i7-11390H is a high-end quad-core SoC for thin and light gaming laptops and mobile workstations. It is based on the Tiger Lake H35 generation and was announced in mid-2021 as a refresh. It integrates four Willow Cove processor cores (8 threads thanks to HyperThreading). The base clock speed depends on the TDP setting and can vary from 2.9 (28 W TDP) to 3.4 GHz (35 W). Compared to the i7-11375H, the 11390H can now also boost with two cores up to 5 GHz and all four cores can reach a 300 MHz higher clock speed of 4.6 GHz. Both i7 use the whole 12 MB level 3 cache.
Furthermore, Tiger Lake SoCs add PCIe 4 support (four lanes), AI hardware acceleration, and the partial integration of Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 and Wi-Fi 6 in the chip.
The average 11390H in our database matches the AMD Ryzen 5 4600U and the Intel Core i7-10710U in multi-thread performance to be a decent mid-range chip, as of late 2021 - provided one isn't too picky when it comes to load times.
Your mileage may vary depending on how high the CPU power limits are, and how competent the cooling solution of your system is.
Power consumption
This Core i7 series chip has a default TDP of 28 W to 35 W, the expectation being that laptop makers will go for a higher value in exchange for higher performance. Either way, a proper coolu\ing solution is a must.
The CPU is built with Intel's third-gen 10 nm manufacturing process marketed as SuperFin for lower-than-average, as of mid 2023, energy efficiency.
