PlayStation has stepped away from Hideo Kojima's Physint. The project, which is to be an action-espionage game from Kojima Productions, was at risk of getting canceled. However, Xbox has saved the day, as Kojima is now partnering with Xbox to continue the development of the game.

Back in 2024, Hideo Kojima appeared on PlayStation’s State of Play presentation to announce that the legendary game developer was working on a “next-generation action-espionage” title called “Physint”. This got gamers quite hyped, as Physint sounded like game in line with Kojima’s highly acclaimed Metal Gear Solid series. However, Sony has abruptly stepped away from the project, which had the potential to cancel the game completely. Xbox has now proved to be the knight in shining armor for Kojima Productions.

PlayStation’s official X account announced this shocking news by explaining that the company decided to step away from supporting Physint “after careful consideration”. PlayStation attempted to soften the blow by claiming that its relationship with Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions “remains strong after three decades of industry-leading, genre-defining creative cooperation.”

Hideo Kojima also took to X to explain that the studio “unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the PHYSINT project” in mid-June. Mr. Kojima, who leads Kojima Productions, apparently spent the last three months looking for a potential partner to save the game from complete cancelation. Xbox has now stepped in to fund the title.

So, Hideo Kojima and Xbox are collaborating on Physint. Hideo Kojima assured gamers that the “development of PHYSINT, our genre-defining action-espionage title, is ongoing and will continue moving forward”.

This is a huge miss from Sony, which is already receiving massive backlash from the PlayStation community for canceling physical games. With Physint and OD now on board, Xbox is now collaborating with Hideo Kojima’s on two projects.

We are still unsure what prompted PlayStation to take such a drastic measure. What we are sure of, however, is that Xbox’s stock will certainly rise from the news.
