A new Philips Hue Secure doorbell has leaked following an app update. This newly revealed information and illustration of this unreleased smart home product were recently spotted following earlier rumors about this device.
Philips Hue app version 5.38 arrived a few days ago for iOS and Android users, with several new features. These included a new way to organize Hue Bridges and an improvement for all-day scene users. Plus, the company added a new QR code scanning tool designed to make it easier to add new devices to your smart home.
Now, when users go to “Add Device” and select the “No QR code” option, one of the possible product categories is “Doorbells”, under which is listed the unannounced “Secure doorbell”. The accompanying set-up instructions tell users to physically install the device, though no further details are provided. Plus, an error message stating that “your doorbell may not be connected to power” indicates that this is likely a wired rather than battery powered device. The illustration shows a simple two-tone design with a camera at the top and a large round button that appears to be surrounded by an LED light.
Philips Hue has not yet officially announced this upcoming product. As such, it is unclear when the Hue Secure doorbell will launch or how much it will cost. It is also unclear whether or not the device will need to be paired to a Hue Bridge (curr. $42 at Amazon).
