Parted Magic 2024_11_03 launches with a new kernel, updated LibreOffice and ClamAV, as well as Wine 9.0
Although it was launched in early 2007 as an open source Slackware-based bootable Linux distro for disk partitioning and data recovery, Parted Magic moved to a pay-to-download business model less than a decade later while continuing to use a free and open source software foundation. Since 2020, it stopped supporting 32-bit systems, so now it can only run on 64-bit hardware. The latest version is Parted Magic 2024_11_03, and it comes with plenty of updated tools as well as a new kernel.
Without any further ado, these are the highlights of Parted Magic 2024_11_03:
- Linux kernel 6.11.
- LibreOffice 24.8.2.
- ClamAV 1.4.1.
- Mozilla Firefox 115.16.1 ESR.
- Wine 9.0.
- Nvidia driver 560.35.03.
- HDDSuperClone 2.33 Pro.
In addition to the above, other tools received updates as well. It should also be mentioned that Wine 9 comes with support for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows applications. To help installing these apps and missing DLL files, if applicable, Parted Magic 2024_11_03 also comes with Winetricks.
Parted Magic is covered with a 14-day money-back guarantee, and there are no free versions to download. The prices start at $13 (quarterly subscription) and go all the way up to $199, a figure that covers the lifetime subscription. Since this is a tool conceived primarily for partitioning drives and recovering data, it would be a good idea to grab a spacious external drive with it as well. For the time being, Amazon is offering the 20 TB Seagate Expansion external HDD with model name STKP20000400 for $343.48, thanks to a generous 31% discount.
