Panasonic LANTERNA smart light with video projection unveiled
The Panasonic LANTERNA smart light has been revealed in Japan. Two models of the LANTERNA will be available this July, a lamp and a ceiling-mounted pendant, and you can project content onto the side of the light to create a custom design. Several free images will accompany the product; for example, you could display cherry blossoms in the spring.
Built-in LEDs provide 10-step dimmable lighting with an adjustable color temperature range from 2700 to 5000K, which can match the image projected on the device. Video content to be projected onto the sides of the LANTERNA will be available via the Lantana Cloud Service smartphone app, where you can also create your own photos and videos to be shown on the light. The company notes that a 3,000 yen (~US$21) monthly subscription fee will be charged for the cloud service.
Thanks to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, you can link up to 16 units of the LANTERNA smart light. Plus, Panasonic suggests combining the LANTERNA smart light with other products in its range, such as a Bluetooth speaker, for a holistic solution for your restaurant, hotel or office. It remains unclear how much Panasonic will charge for the LANTERNA lamp and LANTERNA ceiling light or whether the device will be available in other markets.
