OnePlus 9 series: a case-maker allegedly confirms product names for all three phones ahead of their launch
OnePlus has been tipped to launch a smartphone called the 9E alongside the more predictable 9 and 9 Pro at its next major launch event for some time now. However, Evan Blass subsequently posted some code that pointed to this additional, possibly more affordable, option being called the 9R instead. Now, Spigen has reportedly complicated this detail once again.
MySmartPrice has published what is claimed as a screenshot from the popular accessories OEM in which it had added new sub-categories for the latest OnePlus phones, despite the fact they have yet to launch at present. According to the official website's new radio buttons, the devices were to be called the 9, 9 Pro and 9E.
This contradiction of Blass' assertion have also been mirrored by a tweet from a second reliable leaker, Max Jambor, who disputed the new "9R" moniker in a a rather lyrical manner (he "wouldn't stick his hands in fire" for the sake of the name change's veracity: it could well be due to a simple typo, after all). However, when we went to confirm these changes to the Spigen website, the contents of the screenshot in question were not in evidence.
Then again, the company had left 1 reference to the OnePlus 9 series intact: a new filter for the economy model - now called the 9R. The term was placed between that for the 8T and those for the Nord, Nord N10 and Nord N100. Then again, clicking on it does not yield anything showing that phone in a new case, despite the inclusion of one in the MySmarPrice image.
That image showed a phone with an off-center camera hump containing up to 4 sensors and a rear-facing fingerprint sensor. Therefore, this latest leak may prove that the new OnePlus mid-ranger does exist, and that it is indeed likely called the 9R.
