OnePlus 9 Pro camera details confirm new primary, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto cameras but the same selfie camera as the OnePlus 8 Pro; OnePlus 9 series will have WARP chargers in the box
OnePlus may have confirmed its Hasselblad partnership and a March 23 launch for the OnePlus 9 series, but it has also detailed a few features about its upcoming smartphones. According to CEO Pete Lau, OnePlus will include a charger in the box with the OnePlus 9 series. Presumably a WARP Charge power adapter, it remains to be seen if the adapter will support WARP Charge 30 or WARP Charge 65. Unfortunately, this is only noteworthy since Apple and Samsung decided against including chargers with their smartphones and Xiaomi in China.
Additionally, the company has published the first marketing render of what we suspect is the OnePlus 9 Pro. Funnily enough, the render looks almost identical to the leaked hands-on photos that Dave Lee published last month. Based on a recent leak, the render above is the Morning Mist version of the OnePlus 9 Pro. There should also be Stellar Black and Forest Green versions of the OnePlus 9 Pro.
Evidently, the OnePlus 9 Pro has four rear-facing cameras, while past leaks have shown that the device will also have a single front-facing camera. So far, OnePlus has confirmed that the new Sony IMX789 will be the OnePlus 9 Pro's primary camera, which it describes as 'the largest and most advanced main camera sensor ever on a OnePlus device'. The IMX789 should support dual native ISO, all-pixel omnidirectional focus technology, and real-time HDR video capture, along with 12-bit RAW.
The company has teased that the device will have a 'freeform' ultra-wide-angle camera too that Digital Chat Station has revealed will be the Sony IMX786. Incidentally, Oppo uses the IMX786 in the Reno 5 Pro Plus, albeit as its main camera. Hence, we expect the OnePlus 9 Pro to have a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera.
Moreover, Digital Chat Station's leak also shows that the OnePlus 9 Pro has an 8 MP OmniVision sensor, presumably a telephoto camera, and dual 2.0 MP GalaxyCore GC02M1B sensors. Oppo uses two GalaxyCore GC02M1B sensors in the A93 as mono cameras, so we may see OnePlus similarly deploy them in the OnePlus 9 Pro.
Finally, a Sony IMX471 will serve as the OnePlus 9 Pro's front-facing camera. The 16 MP sensor is, arguably, the least exciting of the six cameras here, but only because OnePlus already uses it in the OnePlus 8 Pro. So, it seems that OnePlus has not overhauled the front-facing camera with the OnePlus 9 series. However, we imagine that the company will have improved the image processing on the OnePlus 9 Pro to deliver incremental front-facing camera improvements over the OnePlus 8 Pro.
The OnePlus 9 series will arrive on March at 10:00 EDT (14:00 GMT/15:00 CET/19:30 IST). The company is expected to launch the OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9R, OnePlus 9 Pro and the OnePlus Watch. Pre-orders should commence immediately in some countries.
