The Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus launched its first phone, the OnePlus One, in 2014. The key highlight of the phone was flagship performance for a lower price. To recall, Samsung’s flagship offering of 2014, the Galaxy S5, featured the Snapdragon 801 processor and had a price tag of $649, while the OnePlus One with the same chipset cost $299. Over the years, OnePlus changed its strategy and targeted the premium smartphone segment. For example, the OnePlus 13 launched in the US for $899.
Now, a new rumor has surfaced online regarding the pricing of the company’s upcoming flagship phone, the OnePlus 15. According to @OnePlusClub on the social media site X, the OnePlus 15 will be priced “significantly” lower. The source claims that this is because the company has reduced spending on costly components.
Furthermore, the source suggests that OnePlus will use a strategy similar to iQoo. For reference, the iQoo 13 launched as a performance-oriented phone with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and a 144Hz display for a lower price. In China, the device reportedly surpassed the combined sales of the OnePlus 13 and the Realme GT7 Pro. Following a strategy similar to iQoo, the OnePlus 15 is expected to launch as a performance-focused flagship.
Leaked specifications of the OnePlus 15 also align with this performance-first approach. For example, the phone is tipped to feature a 6.78-inch display with a 1.5K resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. Its predecessor featured a larger display with a higher resolution but a 120Hz refresh rate. In addition, OnePlus has officially confirmed the end of its Hasselblad partnership, with the company now shifting to its self-developed imaging engine.
At the time of writing, there is no official confirmation regarding the pricing of the OnePlus 15; hence, this information should be taken with a pinch of salt. The phone is expected to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset in October in China.
