Nubia has just revealed that its Z40 Pro will get an S variant in the near future, which, like the steadily-growing list of its potential peers, will have the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC in place of the slightly older 8 Gen 1. ZTE's premium brand has also already made it clear that it intends to edge its current flagship out in terms of camera specs as well as performance.
To this end, the Z40S Pro will even have something like OnePlus' Alert Slider, although it is a 2-step physical toggle in its case designed to reveal a red dot that may or may not be an LED when set to one position. Nubia indicates that it will act as a 'camera switch' that short-cuts to a specific street photography mode; there is no word on its ability to re-map at present.
This teaser also casually hints at an updated build with flat edges for the Z40S Pro. That may also imply scope for a flat display in this iterative update, although the brand has yet to confirm such a change. Nubia is also shaping up to rival the Moto X30 Pro in terms of camera-hump blockiness, with an almost Vivo-esque window full of large and ostensibly high-tech lenses.
On that note, the brand has also joined Motorola in teasing its next flagship in terms of slightly more obscure camera specs than usual. To that end, the Z40S Pro will, like the X30 Pro, have 2 different cameras with 50mm and 35mm lenses (the latter of which ZTE pioneered in the Nubia Z series) respectively - as well as a 125mm periscope module, according to the leaker Digital Chat Station.
Finally, the Z40S Pro will have what already looks like a markedly large, bright ring flash. Accordingly, Nubia touts it as a serious mobile photography contender that is now set to launch on July 20, 2022 at 14:00 Beijing time (08:00 CET).
