Nitecore has announced another flashlight, the EDC09, in a flat housing design. It combines several functions within the EDC series that were previously reserved for the manufacturer's specialized flashlights. For the first time in this slim design, it features a flip-up head. The belt clip allows the flashlight to function in a chest pocket, for example, and the head can be tilted forward up to 102°. The two-way clip is also compatible with caps, and the back of the flashlight is magnetic. Nitecore also includes a diffuser that can be attached to the flashlight to transform it into a lantern.
The EDC features MCT (Multicolor Turntable), which allows you to change the light color by mixing two LED types. This is similar to the Tini 3 (review, in German only). You can choose between 3,000, 4,500 and 6,500 Kelvin. Nitecore also provides CRI (Color Rendering Index) values. The warm light at 3,000 Kelvin is particularly good with a CRI of 97. The neutral white and cool white light have CRIs of 83 and 73, respectively. Switching between the two modes is done by simply pressing a dedicated button on the side. Holding the switch down activates a 5-hertz warning light. The light itself is activated in three stages using a slide switch, like on the EDC17.
The flashlight is IPX6-rated, just over 10 cm long and weighs 114 grams, including the battery. The battery is not replaceable and is charged via USB-C, allowing the flashlight to be used while charging. The battery life is 2 hours and 15 minutes in the brightest mode and 250 hours in the dimmest mode, regardless of the light color. However, the range and the brightness are affected by the light color. The data can be found in the manufacturer's table below.
The Nitecore EDC09 is now shipping. The price is around $70, as Nitecore confirmed upon request.
