Nitecore has introduced a new power bank that is particularly light and is based on silicon-carbon battery cells. The NB10000 Gen 4 can also store more energy than many other 10,000mAh power banks, which is why Nitecore refers to typical 13,000mAh power banks for comparison.

Nitecore has introduced the silicon-carbon power bank called NB10000 Gen 4, which weighs just 5.0 oz. As a classic 10,000mAh pack, the gadget also stores more energy than most other 10,000mAh power banks. To be more precise, the NB10000 Gen 4 has 39Wh (3.9V) of capacity. That is slightly more than Nitecore’s Carbo 10000 Gen 2 with 38.8Wh. Typically, 10,000mAh power banks offer around 37Wh.

Interestingly, the internal cells in the NB10000 Gen 4 have a lower energy density than those in the Carbo 10000 Gen 2. Therefore, a noticeable part of the weight is used for the housing and other components. It is made from a carbon fiber composite and a flame-retardant frame.

The power bank is also efficient in terms of its rated power output. Many common power banks do not provide these figures. At 1A and 5V, it delivers 7,200mAh, or just over 36WH in eco mode. According to Nitecore, the new internal 9V platform is responsible for this high efficiency. At 3A at 5V, this number drops to 6,800mAh (34Wh). The power bank can be used in eco and normal mode.

According to Nitecore, this typically puts it on par with 13,000mAh power banks from other brands. For the previous NB10000 Gen 3, Nitecore only listed a value for 2A at 5V, which comes in at 6,200mAh or 31Wh. The new generation therefore offers up to 20% more usable energy in the best case.

Moreover, the NB10000 Gen 4 supports USB-C Power Delivery with up to 22.5 watts. Consequently, this power bank is best suited for smartphones. It can also be charged with up to 22.5 watts and supports the Power Delivery voltages 5V, 9V and 12V. Pass-through charging is also supported.

The Nitecore power bank is intended for outdoor use and is IPX7 certified. The gadget can survive drops with little damage and has two illuminated USB-C ports for use in the dark. A tap on the power bank activates the light. This feature is also supposed to work with gloves but can be disabled.

A short USB-C cable is included in the box and doubles as a carrying loop. With all that said, Nitecore has not announced an official price yet. Considering the low weight and high capacity, it won’t be cheap. For reference, the previous Nitecore NB10000 Gen 3 currently retails for $99 on Amazon.
