The Marauder Mini has always been a pretty hefty flashlight, and the second generation does not change that. But along with the MCC port for magnetic charging, the gadget now sports USB Type-C and offers around 20% better performance.

Olight has officially announced the Marauder Mini 2. This new flashlight comes with four different light sources, some of which can be used together. In comparison to EDC flashlights, the Marauder Mini 2 is definitely much larger. It carries the "mini" moniker because there is an even larger version of the Marauder, which has not been updated yet. Instead, the Marauder 2 uses a similar form factor but is very thick.

At about 5.1 inches long, the Mini 2 is still somewhat comparable to compact flashlights. The body is more than 1.6 inches in diameter, while the head measures 2.6 inches. It’s powered by a replaceable 32650 battery with roughly 28Wh of capacity. That is significantly more than a 21700 battery, although the gap has narrowed since some 21700 cells now have a very high energy density.

Anyhow, the battery can be charged via two different ports. There’s a new USB-C port that’s covered by a sliding flap, but the flashlight still has the magnetic MCC port. This means anyone who already owns a dock for multiple MCC flashlights or is planning to buy the new Ostation 2 Pro can also charge the Marauder Mini without plugging it in. However, the new Olight flashlight weighs more than 16 oz, so it is quite heavy and the magnetic connector is not strong enough to hold the Marauder Mini 2 in place. On the other hand, the flashlight has an IPX8 certification.

Performance depends on the light source, and the Mini 2 has a total of four. There are two LEDs that produce red light with 1 to 400 lumens. These are part of a 12 LED ring with ten white LEDs that provide a floodlight with 0.5 to 10000 lumens. Additionally, there is a central LED that produces a beam with 1.5 to 1350 lumens and up to 820 yards of throw. Then there is a side light that can come in handy when the flashlight is set upright with the head facing up. Compared to the previous model, the output has been increased by roughly 20%.

Since there are many settings, there are big differences in terms of battery life. More specifically, the flashlight only lasts 2 to 4 minutes in the extreme modes, after which the Marauder Mini 2 dims to a lower level. The moonlight, floodlight and spotlight modes can last between 50 and 95 days, while the side light runs for up to 150 days in the lowest setting. For more specific runtimes, we recommend checking out Olight’s PDF manual.

The flashlight has several controls including a rotary dial, a selector switch on the dial that slides sideways and a sliding switch that controls floodlight, spotlight and the combined mode. The latter does not work when the red light or side light is on. The rotary dial also acts as the power button.

As usual, Olight is granting a launch discount on its latest flashlight. It currently costs about $176 instead of the regular MSRP of $219. Shipping will kick off on November 17. The Olight Marauder Mini 2 is available in black, blue and orange. A carrying case is included in the box, as is a wrist strap that also functions as a USB-C cable.
