Earlier this year, Garmin unveiled the GPSMap H1i Plus, a new handheld navigator that supports the company's inReach Plus service (curr. $929 on Amazon). Now, it seems that the company has let slip its intentions to replace the inReach Mini 2, which debuted almost four years ago.
For context, Mini 2 has served as an entry point into Garmin's satellite communicator thanks to its low starting price and frequent discounts. Now, it seems that a successor is right around the corner. Surprisingly, Garmin itself is the apparent source, with the company having included a picture of the so-called inReach Mini 3 in a recent marketing email.
Embedded below and originally posted by Redditor u/LargestIntestine, the ensuing Reddit thread suggests that Garmin quickly swapped out the image for one containing the older inReach Mini 2 upon realising its mistake. Evidently then, the mysterious inReach device is real and will soon receive an official release. In the meantime, the leaked photo indicates a few visual changes from the ageing inReach mini 2.
For instance, Garmin has added a much larger display, the contents of which suggest that the inReach Mini 3 can mark map waypoints and send messages via satellite networks. This could display will be joined by a returning vertical antenna too, albeit one that features a distinctive red casing this time around. Other details about the inReach Mini 3 remain unknown for now, although we suspect the device is close to being released globally.
