Every year, numerous cosmic events can be observed from Earth, sometimes offering breathtaking spectacles, such as C/2020 F3 (Neowise) during the summer of 2020. But in the coming weeks, three comets will be visible with binoculars or an amateur telescope.
The first comet is none other than 210P/Christensen. Discovered by Eric Christensen on May 26, 2003, with the help of the Catalina Sky Survey, it has a nucleus about 1,7 kilometers in diameter.
To have chances to observe it in the Northern Hemisphere with binoculars, you will have to wait until the end of November under a very dark sky. Indeed, at this moment, it will be low on the eastern horizon.
Two other comets that will soon be visible from Earth
The second is certainly one of the best known, as it is often associated with an alien probe. Indeed, 3I/ATLAS is the third interstellar object traveling through our solar system, and while its size is still unknown, it could be about a kilometer in diameter.
To observe it, it will also be necessary to wait until the end of November, when it will have a magnitude between 11 and 12. However, do not expect to see it with the naked eye, as a telescope will be needed. And it will be necessary to move away from any light pollution.
Finally, discovered on March 3, 2024, by Kacper Wierzchos, C/2024 E1 (Wierzchos) still holds many mysteries. But according to astronomers, it could be visible in the Northern Hemisphere during December with binoculars or a telescope. Subsequently, from January 20, 2026, this comet will be visible in the Southern Hemisphere.
However, it is important to note that each situation may evolve during the coming weeks. Indeed, comets can undergo many changes and can also explode as they get closer to the sun. In addition, it is impossible to predict the weather conditions for such a duration, which can spoil certain observations.
