Olight is launching two new battery chargers with the so-called Ostation V8 series. These devices are compatible with Olight’s own LiO cells as well as NiMH batteries. At the same time, the Ostationpower brand is being separated from Olight.

Olight has introduced the Ostation V8 and Ostation V8 Pro. Both of these are compact battery charging stations for up to eight AA or AAA batteries. They can charge standard NiMH batteries as well as Olight’s new 1.5 V lithium-ion cells, which Olight now calls "Ecolast". These are only available in the AA form factor for now, but Olight is working on more additions to its battery lineup.

Anyhow, there are clear differences in terms of feature set between the Pro and non-Pro versions. The Ostation V8 Pro can also be used as a power bank and charge devices such as a smartphone using AAA or AA batteries. With Olight Ecolast cells, roughly 24Wh should be available. This is generally sufficient for one full charge of a smartphone battery, which typically offers under 20Wh of capacity. The non-Pro version also lacks the integrated cable.

As of now, the status display is available on both versions, so there are no limitations in this regard. Ultimately, the buying decision comes down to the usefulness of the aforementioned power bank feature. Anyone who only wants to use the Ostation V8 at home probably won’t need this advanced functionality.

For now, this is a just pre-announcement of the Olight Ostation V8, as these gadgets should become available soon. Prices will also be announced later. Alongside this announcement, Olight has launched the Ostation 2 and Ostation 2 Pro, which are only available on Amazon US at the time of writing. The Ostation 2 Pro costs $112 for Prime subscribers and $140 for regular customers. It’s unclear if or when these new devices will launch in other markets, but we have noticed that most references to the Ostation have been removed from Olight’s official German website.

Ostation is also a separate brand effective immediately, which is why there's a new and separate website called Ostationpower.com. Therefore, we can assume that Olight plans to significantly expand this product lineup and will keep it separately from its relatively large selection of flashlight.
