Olight has introduced the O'Pen 3, a new penlight that offers a total of four light sources. It replaces the older O'Pen 2, which Olight no longer sells. Similar lighting features can be found in other penlights from this brand.
However, this is progress for the O'Pen series, as a new Class 1 green laser pointer is now onboard. The red light is also new and shines from the side near the clip. Previously, this light was only white, but now there are two colors.
Unfortunately, the pen can no longer be disassembled into two parts, which was necessary for charging, but also allowed users to reposition the clip section for the side light. That said, the USB-C port is now accessible directly, as the pen is pulled apart slightly in the middle to reveal the port.
Meanwhile, the tip of the flashlight sports a regular ballpoint light. Due to its size, the output is limited to 120 lumens and a range of 46 ft, while the minimum output is 2 lumens. That figure applies to the side light. On the other hand, the red light provides 5 or 10 lumens. These numbers refer to the side light.
The penlight is controlled with a slider to select the light source and a traditional switch to toggle brightness levels. Moreover, the integrated battery has a capacity of just under 0.5 watt-hours and a runtime of at least 14 minutes in the brightest mode, after which the Olight flashlight throttles for another 25 minutes. At just 2 lumens, it can last for 26 hours. In terms of size, the pen is about 6.2 inches long and about 0.5 inches thick.
The Olight O'Pen 3 is now available for purchase for $80 and comes in black, red and a classic outdoor orange.
