The response to the Switch 2 pre-orders going live has been quite chaotic with unstable websites, orders being canceled, or stocks running out almost instantly. This incredible demand has led to Nintendo preparing for delays when it comes time to deliver. The Switch 2 will launch on June 5 but not everyone in the US and Canada who registered their interest will get the handheld on launch day.
There are two ways to get in line to grab the Nintendo Switch 2. Customers can either pre-order the handheld at retailer websites or register their interest on the My Nintendo Store page. Those who register and are eligible will be sent an invite starting May 8. But now, Nintendo has issued an update for US and Canada customers on the ‘How to buy Nintendo Switch 2’ webpage stating that while the company will be working diligently to fulfill orders on launch day, delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed.
This means some fans who received their timely invites and placed an order for the Switch 2 may not receive it on launch day. “Invitation emails will be prioritized on a first-come, first-served basis to registrants who have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership with a minimum of 12 months of paid membership and a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours, as of April 2, 2025,” the website states.
Furthermore, it also states that some invitations may arrive after launch and people will be able to place their orders then, with shipping calculated after purchase. Nintendo adds that pre-ordering from partners such as GameStop may increase the chance of getting the Switch 2 at launch.
