Next-gen AirPods have been predicted to launch as anything from inaugural USB type-C accessories to in-ear thermometers. Now, a new leak has thrown another possible future feature into the mix. Apple's upcoming flagship wearables might also help detect hearing impairments as well as correct for them.

Apple is rumored to be hard at work doing all it can to make next-gen AirPods as advanced in terms of health-tracking features as possible, not to mention Vision Pro-integrated. The specs in question include user body-temperature sensing thought to outdo that of smartwatches with similar abilities.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg now asserts that the OEM has added yet another health-related feature to its list of oneday AirPod upgrades. That would be over-the-counter (OTC) -grade hearing aid hardware - which might prove a seismic shock to the market for the same in countries such as the US (where the latest FDA guidelines encourage growth at present).

Apple is also allegedly working on its own 'hearing test app' for AirPods which, again, could be a blow to developers in the same space. Then again, there is no guarantee that the earbuds will upgrade with any kind of potential health-boosting feature, auditory or otherwise any time soon: their series has yet to see so much as its first USB type-C port, after all.
