The Apple Health sleep score has arrived in the Health app for some users. The feature was recently announced alongside the new Watch Series 11, Watch SE 3 and Watch Ultra 3. Since then, it has been reported by users who are beta testing iOS 26.
Some testers have confirmed that Apple’s new sleep score metric is not just for Apple Watch users. It is also available for users of wearables from other brands like Amazfit and Garmin, such as the Garmin Index Sleep Monitor (curr. $169.99 at Amazon). The conditions appear to be that your smartwatch or fitness tracker supports sleep tracking and can be synced to Apple Health. Users will not have to wait for a set period for this metric to generate, either, as it can be calculated using historical data. On social media, users have already noted differences between their Garmin or Zepp sleep scores and Apple’s calculation.
Sleep score is designed to help Apple Health users track their quality of sleep. It takes into account factors such as sleep duration and interruptions, sleep stages and the time you go to bed. A score is calculated after each night of sleep, with insights designed to help users understand where they can improve. Apple notes that its scoring algorithm is backed by data from over 5 million nights of sleep, gathered in the Apple Heart and Movement study. Plus, it is influenced by the latest guidance from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the National Sleep Foundation, and the World Sleep Society.
The Apple sleep score will also be available for users of some older Apple Watches running watchOS 26: the Apple Watch Series 6 or later, the Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) or later, and all Apple Watch Ultra models. The metric is expected to be released more widely on September 15th, following the conclusion of the current beta testing.
