More evidence of March 2024 release for new mid-range Xiaomi smartphone emerges
Another sighting of Xiaomi's next mid-range smartphone has appeared online. To recap, rumours appeared online earlier this month of Xiaomi developing another CIVI-branded smartphone. So far, the company has offered up the CIVI, CIVI 1S, CIVI 2 and CIVI 3, with the latter arriving almost a year ago. Nonetheless, Xiaomi has not released the CIVI 3 in any form yet, although the Xiaomi 13T is a close relative thanks to their reliance on identical MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultra chipsets.
Confusingly, this unreleased CIVI model is expected to arrive as the CIVI 4, despite being the fifth model in the series. For reference, Xiaomi often assigns the number 4 to its devices despite its connotations within Chinese numerology, including the Mi 4, MIX 4, POCO F4 and Redmi Note 4. Now, Xiaomi appears to have certified the CIVI 4 with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), a step in the device's progress to being launched in China.
As always, the MIIT does not refer to the CIVI 4 by its retail name. Instead, the regulatory body lists the device as '24031PN0DC' a model number that has been mistaken for the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Please note that Xiaomi's next flagship has been assigned the model numbers '24030PN60C' and '24030PN60G' for its global variant. By contrast, GSMChina discovered IMEI database results in September 2023 linking 24031PN0DC to the retail name 'CIVI 4'.
Currently, it remains to be seen when Xiaomi will present a new CIVI smartphone. With that being said, the company tends to refresh the CIVI series every six to nine months, which the CIVI 4's model number supports. Specifically, '2403' indicates that Xiaomi intends to offer the device in some capacity during March 2024, although plans often change. For now, the CIVI 4 is expected to arrive with a Dimensity 8300 Ultra chipset, mirroring the Redmi K70E and POCO X6 Pro.
