A new post from ZACKBUKS, who has frequently posted accurate leaks about Sony’s Xperia range, could signal good news for those planning on purchasing a model like the Xperia 5 V. When machine translated, the post reads “The whole series of 12 GB is good for civilization”, with a follower commenting “expect 5 to start at 12”. In a nutshell, this appears to indicate that the Sony Xperia 5 V will come with 12 GB of RAM in 2023.
This ties in neatly with a Geekbench appearance by a phone that could be this “modern compact”, under the record name “Sony XQ-DQ72”. This entry clearly shows the potential Xperia 5 V device with 12 GB of RAM, which would be a good boost over the predecessor that came with 8 GB of memory. While some argue that the Sony Xperia 5 IV and its likely successor should not be classed as compact smartphones, the cold hard truth is that in the current market a display size of around 6 inches should be considered compact when many flagships are much larger.
Interestingly, the post could be read as inferring that 12 GB of RAM will be featured across the board for Sony’s 2023 Xperia lineup, but it would arguably be only relevant to the flagship devices. The Sony Xperia 10 IV came with 6 GB of RAM, and it is highly unlikely the Xperia 10 V will get double. In addition, the rumored Xperia Ace IV or similar will also probably start at 6 GB. But the downside here is that it would mean the Xperia 1 V and Xperia PRO-I Mark 2 may remain at 12 GB for their entry-level SKUs.
