Compact Xperia foldable clamshell smartphone allegedly in the pipeline

A somewhat sketchy rumor about a foldable Sony Xperia smartphone has been shared by an outlet that appears to have some vague sources for its information. However, it’s always worth reporting on potentially new Xperia phones as there is considerable interest in what Sony might have planned for its continued survival in the cutthroat smartphone market. Supposed information out of South Korea, upon translation, claims that Sony’s next-generation compact Xperia smartphone will also be a foldable device.

The "trust me, bro"-type message (see below) even states what type of foldable this alleged compact Sony Xperia will be: a “vertically open clamshell”. So, it could be something more akin to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip range but in a smaller form rather than being like a model from the larger Galaxy Z Fold series. This is backed up by the claim that there will be no second screen for the potential Xperia F, Xperia Flex, or Xperia Fold, making this mystery device possibly something like a cut-down Sony Xperia 1 V folded in half.

While it would be simple enough to dismiss such a vague leak, no matter the fan desire for either a new compact Xperia or for Sony to finally plunge into the foldable pool, there has been some more substantial evidence that at least a foldable Xperia is in the pipeline. Back in February, a leaker with some proven background on the Esato forum, known as “spektykles”, posted that they had something interesting to say about a foldable phone from Sony, although nothing more concrete has surfaced since that time.
