Provocative Sony Xperia PRO-I II line drawing showing two 1-inch sensors could be a case of an ouroboros rumor
The Sony Xperia PRO-I II has turned up in an alleged line drawing, where it is labeled as the “Sony xperia Pro I ii”. From the start, it’s worth pointing out that this purported schematic appeared on Weibo via an account that is clearly tech leak-oriented but without many followers at present. It wouldn’t have been too difficult to knock-up such a drawing, and the labeling seems inconsistent if this was an actual leaked official image from Sony (“Xperia PRO-I II” would be more likely). But it’s still interesting to see what could be headed to the market possibly sometime around November or December.
As mentioned above, the most obvious change to be found here between the Xperia PRO-I and its expected successor is with the rear-facing camera equipment. The 2017 model came with a distinctive setup on the back made up of a triple-camera system, with the highlight being a 1-inch sensor for the 12 MP wide camera. The rumored 2023 Xperia PRO-I shown here clearly has two very impressive-looking sensors, which means it could come with two 1-inch units for its main camera system. A concept video from Multi Tech Media (embedded below) also shows the Xperia PRO-I II (“Xperia Pro 2” here) with two equally large sensors.
However, this is where the situation becomes something akin to an “ouroboros” rumor: Was the concept video for the Sony Xperia PRO-I II based on guesses or had the makers seen this same supposed line drawing? Has the newly unearthed schematic actually been created based on this particular concept video (they are strikingly similar)? It seems to be a case of the ouroborosian rumor snake eating its own tail here, although it would be an exciting prospect for smartphone photography afficionados if Sony has gone down this route for the next generation of the highly regarded Xperia PRO-I smartphone.
