Sony has announced a new over-the-air (OTA) software upgrade for its Xperia PRO-I smartphone. It adds an option to live-stream directly from the Videography Pro app for the device's camera UI, which might make its use on social media apps easier and more effective. The update also gives the Android flagship a quicker way to re-map a first-party grip/tripod accessory's custom button.

The Xperia PRO-I (an even more expensive version of the flagship Xperia 1 III Android smartphone with a ~1-inch sensor and a DisplayPort mode for its type-C port) has been issued another new OTA from Sony. Like the last, this one is intended to make live-streaming easier on the enterprise-focused ex-flagship variant.

The PRO-I's latest software upgrade adds the ability to stream an ongoing recording straight from Sony's Videography Pro UI. The update is also rated to allow the smartphone to make sure a file's metadata reflects the fact that this new option is on when shooting in portrait at 120 frames per second (fps), for potentially easy editing thereafter.

The new OTA also benefits those who own both the PRO-I and the first-party GP-VPT2BT accessory. The mini tripod/grip has a "custom" C1 button, which will become accessible to owners of the premium 2021 device via the same Videography Pro app for more direct re-programming.
