A new rumor about the Sony Xperia 1 V has surfaced in regard to dealing with the device’s temperature emissions. There have been many reports about Xperia 1 IV overheating issues, and it seems Sony does not want a repeat of this unflattering situation when it comes time to launch the Mark 5 model of the Xperia 1.

The Sony Xperia 1 V is already shaping up to be potentially one of the best flagship Android smartphones of 2023, and we are still in 2022. However, this claim is based on numerous leaks and reports about the next edition of the beloved Xperia 1 series, and even if the phone does end up being as incredible as is already rumored, no doubt Sony will price it at an eye-wateringly high mark. Recently, many of the whispers about the Xperia 1 V have been about the camera equipment, but it appears Sony may also be working on a much-needed cooling system overhaul.

According to a Weibo-based leaker, who has said a few things about the Xperia range in the past but has very few followers at the time of writing (so pinch of salt), the Sony Xperia 1 V will be treated to a “ceramic-like material” for the rear casing. It’s important to point out that the text translates as “ceramic-like” and not just ceramic, so it’s unknown what material the Xperia 1 V will utilize. However, this mysterious material will apparently be the business when it comes to heat dissipation, supposedly offering a “rate increased by 50%”; in other words, presumably a 50% improvement over the Xperia 1 IV’s cooling solution.

While many leaks and rumors come to nothing, especially when the source has not yet built up a solid reputation for divulging tasty tech tidbits, this one about the Sony Xperia 1 V is easily believable. In our review of the predecessor Xperia 1 IV, we noticed considerable warming, with the device hitting over 40 °C in some points. Obviously, this eventually leads to thermal throttling, with performance reduction also occurring. A new processor for the Xperia 1 V could also help, as the Xperia 1 IV’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is also known for running hot. With a new “ceramic-like material” cover to assist with heat dissipation, the 2023 Xperia 1 should appeal to those who want the full performance they pay for.
