The first details of a new potential compact smartphone coming from Sony were reported back in September and now some fresh information has been posted about the possible successor to the Sony Xperia Ace III, which is a Japan-only device. Apparently, the 2023 Sony Xperia compact smartphone, which purportedly will be fitted with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC, is going to be quite the pocket rocket according to the pinch-of-salt-required leak. Whether or not this phone will eventually be called the Sony Xperia Ace IV is debatable, but it is also rumored that it will be made available on a global scale.
As just mentioned, the next-generation Sony Xperia compact is alleged to be coming with a modern chipset that should outclass the Xperia Ace III’s Snapdragon 480 by up to +10% in GPU processing and +15% in CPU performance. The latest leak (via SumahoDigest/Reddit but reportedly originating on Weibo) also states that the compact phone will have a 5.5-inch display that offers a 2520 x 1080 (FHD+) resolution and consists of a 21:9 ratio OLED panel. If this is a Sony Xperia Ace IV, then it will certainly beat out the predecessor’s screen, which is made up of an HD+ LCD panel.
In addition, the expected 2023 Sony Xperia compact smartphone will come with a starting configuration of 6 GB + 128 GB and a battery capacity of 4,500 mAh. This means the Xperia Ace IV would be considerably upgraded from the 3rd iteration in terms of memory and storage (4 GB + 64 GB) while the battery capacity stayed at the same amount. It’s also stated that the entry-level compact for 2023 will support 18 W charging. It will be exciting news for fans of compact smartphones, but it needs to be remembered how pricey brand-new Sony Xperia phones can be, even entry-level ones.
