New Sony Xperia compact smartphone based on the Xperia Ace IV could be heading for a global launch

Fans of Xperia compact smartphones who live outside of Japan can start crossing their fingers, as a new rumor has surfaced that Sony may be planning on expanding its product portfolio beyond the shoreline of its domestic market. While Xperia brand lovers can choose between new releases like the performant Xperia 1 IV and the feature-packed Xperia 5 IV, there is a shortage of selection for those seeking a device that sits under a 6-inch diagonal display measurement. Even the Sony Xperia 5 IV, which has been promoted by the company with the tagline “go compact”, is a lofty 6.1-inch device.

However, a mysterious source on Weibo (via SumahoDigest/Reddit) has claimed that Sony’s next Xperia Ace model, which they have suitably named as the Sony Xperia Ace IV, will be available outside of Japan, although possibly with a different name. Sony has kept its properly compact smartphone lineup for its domestic market, with the 5.5-inch Xperia Ace III launching recently in Japan in May. But this shadowy tipster assures readers that Sony will release a new Xperia compact smartphone at home and abroad.

In addition, there is even a processor revelation, with the same source stating that the Xperia Ace IV and its global counterpart will sport a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC. The Xperia Ace III comes with a Snapdragon 480, so this potential upgrade does make sense for a mainstream device that doesn’t fall into a premium category. There have been some interesting guesses at what the device could be called for the global market, such as Xperia 20 or Xperia 10 V Compact, but regardless of the name it ends up bearing, it would still delight many users yearning for a truly compact smartphone that doesn’t resemble a trimmed-down tablet.
