Sony has officially launched the Xperia 5 IV, with the compact smartphone brimming with fan-favorite features. The device has space for a 3.5 mm audio jack, microSD slot, and it also comes with an LED notification light. The 6.1-inch Sony Xperia 5 IV is priced at US$999/£949/€1049, with availability depending on region.
Smartphone Launch

The Sony Xperia 5 IV (or Xperia 5 Mark 4) is finally here, after being promoted in a video feed that highlighted singer Cat Burns shooting and recording “People Pleaser”. Many of the details concerning the Xperia 5 IV had already been leaked or rumored, but the video gave Sony the opportunity to showcase its newest smartphone. Prices for the 2022 Xperia 5 are as mentioned above: US$999/£949/€1049.

The release video also revealed that the Sony Xperia 5 IV gets to sport a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, which is backed up by 8 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, and a 5,000-mAh battery (full specifications are posted below). Product pages for the Xperia 5 IV are already live, and it appears that potential buyers in the UK get the full color range consisting of green, black, and ecru (“unbleached linen” similar to beige), while shoppers in the US can only select either black or green.

Future owners of the Xperia 5 IV will find many features that smartphone fans often crave and miss with other devices from rival brands. Along with the favorites mentioned earlier, the Sony Xperia 5 IV also has IP65/68 dust/water proofing, an easy-open SIM tray that doesn’t require an ejector tool, a 120 Hz OLED panel, stereo speakers, and the typical huge amount of audio and cinematic goodies that Sony is renowned for (see screenshots below).

There might be a little complaint about the camera equipment, as the new Xperia 5 has a 12 MP + 12 MP + 12 MP triple-lens system with a fixed telephoto sensor. But there are so many software features included that it seems unlikely a regular user will notice the change from the Xperia 5 III too much. According to the launch event, shipping of the Sony Xperia 5 IV will start this month, but this will depend on region. For instance, The Verge has reported a shipping date of October 27, which is presumably for the US market.
