There has been some more speculation about the Sony Xperia 5 IV, which was in the news recently for an alleged price leak and possibly as part of an upcoming launch event. However, it seems Sony has managed to keep the expected Xperia 5 IV tightly under wraps, as despite a few tidbits from the usual sources, there has been little to learn about the much-anticipated compact smartphone (“compact” to relative modern standard sizes for smartphones).
One of the most reliable Xperia tipsters, ZACKBUKS on Weibo, has offered a bit of a refresh about the Xperia 5 IV: 6-inch screen, 67 mm width, the standard Xperia boxy looks, wireless charging, large capacity battery, and the “same camera focal length as the Xperia 1 IV” (SmartphoneDigest opines this pertains to the telephoto camera). The leaker then makes an intriguing remark that if the Sony Xperia 5 IV comes with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, it should end up being the best compact flagship smartphone release of the year.
Interestingly, another known source who discusses new Sony phones, spektykles on the Esato forum, has offered up this teaser, “there are surprises”, in regard to an upcoming Xperia device, which could be either the Xperia 5 IV or a new Xperia Pro smartphone. Expectations should be tempered, though, as the Sony Xperia 1 IV comes fitted with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, and it would be very surprising if Sony decided to give the Xperia 5 IV a faster processor.
