The steady stream of clamshell retro gaming handhelds that arrived earlier this year has dried up. To recap, the Anbernic RG34XX SP, Miyoo Flip and Powkiddy V90S (curr. $59.99 on Amazon) all arrived within a few months of each. Since then, manufacturers have switched to more expensive options like the AYN Thor, Ayaneo Pocket DS and a cheaper version of the Retroid Pocket Flip 2.
According to a recent report, Miyoo has not forgotten about its so-called Mini Flip. First surfacing in the spring, the Mini Flip is much smaller than the Miyoo Flip that preceded it. Specifically, Miyoo is rumoured to have installed the 2.8-inch IPS display from the Miyoo Mini V4 that outputs at 640 x 480 pixels. In comparison, the regular Flip features a 0.7-inch larger display that spans 3.5-inches diagonally while maintaining the same 480p and 4:3 resolution.
Likewise, the Mini Flip is rumoured to rely upon the same ARM Cortex-A7 derived dual-core chipset with just 128 MB of RAM at its disposal. Reportedly, Miyoo is finally 'close' to giving the Mini Flip a global release. Based on a recent Reddit post, Miyoo will be offering the Mini Flip in a choice of four colours that can be seen below. Unfortunately, neither a specific release date or launch pricing have emerged yet.
