There's still a month to go before the AYN Thor begins to ship, however, AYN keeps releasing new info to whet our appetite. After releasing a handful of live photos, it has now followed it up with a video that showcases the device in use. This video also gives us a look at how the software runs.
In the first minute of the video, which was uploaded on AYN's official YouTube channel, the AYN Thor is shown running a game on one screen and streaming a video on the other screen. The video shows that users will be able to easily swap the content between the two screens via the Focus Mode menu. This menu lets users lock focus to either of the two displays or set it to auto where the main screen is the one that you tap on.
The video also shows the handheld emulating Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS games where the larger display shows the gameplay while the bottom screen shows related info such as a map.
AYN also highlights some of the quick settings such as Fan Control, which lets users choose between a smart mode, sports mode, or custom mode. User's will also be able to easily switch between three performance modes with the tap of a button.
The AYN Thor will also have a quick settings shortcut to access the joysticks' LED menu. Users can choose a preset color or select from a color wheel on the left side of the screen. The menu also provides the option to adjust the brightness and contrast of the LEDs.
While not highlighted, we caught a glimpse of a quick settings shortcut for activating bypass charging. AYN has termed this feature Direct Power Supply, and it should let the AYN Thor draw power directly from a wall adapter instead of the battery when it is plugged in. A similar feature called “charging separation” is available on the AYN Odin 2 (curr. available on Amazon for $339).
When compared to the software of the Ayaneo Pocket DS, the AYN Thor doesn't seem to be as polished. However, considering AYN says the software shown in the video is not the final version, then there's still a chance for improvement.
The AYN Thor is available to pre-order, starting at $249, from the AYN website.
