Minisforum has released an affordable new mini-PC in Japan. On the face of it, the NAB3R closely resembles other NAB series mini-PCs like the NAB6 and NAB9 Plus (curr. $495 on Amazon). Visually, the NAB3R adds a front-facing USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port, which fills the space between its DMIC and two front-facing USB 3.2 Type-A ports.
However, Minisforum has swapped the Alder Lake-H processors found in the NAB6 and NAB9 for an Alder Lake-P alternative. Specifically, the NAB3R features the Core i3-1220P, a processor with 2 P-cores clocked at 4.4 GHz and 8 E-cores capped at 3.3 GHz to deliver 12 threads with a modest iGPU also at its disposal.
Moreover, the NAB3R supports upgradeable storage and RAM, albeit only up to 64 GB of DDR4-3200 in the latter's case. Nonetheless, Minisforum has included an active cooling solution for the mini-PC's M.2 2280 SSD, as well as a large turbo fan on its underside. As the image below shows, the NAB3R is not short of ports on its rear side either.
At this stage, it is unclear whether the company plans to offer the mini-PC globally. Typically, Minisforum mini-PCs tend to receive international releases at some stage though, like the MS-R1 and the forthcoming MS-02 Ultra. For reference, the Minisforum NAB3R costs around JPY 74,000 in Japan with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, which equates to roughly ~$475 at current exchange rates.
