Under a week has passed since Minisforum introduced the X1 Lite, an AMD Hawk Point-powered mini-PC that packed plenty of versatility into its 130 x 126 x 47.2 mm and 670 g housing. Initially launched in China, the X1 Lite can now be picked up across the US, EU, Japan and the UK, albeit not from Minisforum directly in the US for the time being.
To recap, the Minisforum X1 Lite leverages the Ryzen 7 255, a Zen 4-based APU with 8 cores and 16 threads at its disposal that can boost to 4.9 GHz when needed. Also containing a Radeon 780M iGPU, the Ryzen 7 255 is a rebadged Ryzen 7 8845HS, just as the Ryzen 7 H 255 is to the Ryzen 7 8745H. According to Minisforum, the X1 Lite can push its APU to 65 W thanks to its built-in cooling system, a 44% increase on the APU's stock TDP.
If the Radeon 780M falls short when gaming, then the X1 Lite also features OCuLink and USB4 connectivity for connecting an eGPU. Moreover, Minisforum has included SO-DIMM slots that can handle up to 128 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and dual M.2 2280 slots for 8 TB of PCIe 4.0 storage. Currently, the X1 Lite can be picked up in the US for $609.90 with 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD.
Meanwhile, the EU, Japan and the UK have received barebone units too that retail for between ~$350-$400 at current exchange rates. Full availability in the US remains unclear at this stage, though. Please see Minisforum's website for more details.
