Cyberdecks or Writerdecks have become their own niche over the years, with hobbyists transforming anything from a Lenovo Legion Go to a Raspberry Pi 400 (curr. $88.95 on Amazon) into something from the stuff of Neuromancer or Cyberpunk 2077 and everything in between. Now, Jeff Merrick of Wireform LLC has developed an alternative based on the classic Epson PX-4.
Dubbed the Typeframe PX-88, the project utilises a Raspberry Pi Model 4B and its Broadcom BCM2711 chipset at its core. Additionally, the device features a 7.9-inch IPS touchscreen display sourced from Waveshare, which outputs at 1,280 x 400 pixels and sits without a flip-up housing. Moreover, the Typeframe PX-88 contains a custom 65% mechanical keyboard built around the MK Point64 PCB.
On top of that, Merrick has installed Cherry MX compatible keycaps and switches, as well as a 37 Wh battery to power the Typeframe PX-88. Unfortunately, Merrick is not selling his Writerdeck directly. Instead, one must assemble a unit themselves, the assembly files for which can be found on the Typeframe website. Please see the Typeframe website and associated GitHub for more details.
