When it was first released, the Lilygo T-Echo quickly became a go-to platform for enthusiasts of long-range communication. Being compatible with Meshtastic and SoftRF, as well as supporting various protocols for data and location transmission, made it a popular choice for those seeking an all-in-one platform for building off-grid comms. With the release of a new plus model, Lilygo has further enhanced the platform, incorporating some quality-of-life upgrades.
Internally, the Lilygo T-Echo Plus still features the Nordic nRF52840 MCU, which supports Bluetooth 5, Zigbee, Thread, and other wireless protocols. However, it is now paired with the AI-enhanced BHI260AP IMU for more precise motion tracking. The T-Echo Plus also features a vibration motor to provide users with feedback and a significant battery upgrade from 850 mAh to 2,400 mAh. Since every piece of this platform is optimized for low power usage, especially the 1.54-inch e-ink display, the battery upgrade alone guarantees more uptime while in the field.
Designed for outdoor use, the T-Echo Plus also features some external enhancements, with the Plus model adding a ¼-inch tripod mount in addition to the M2 x 2.5mm mounting points. The T-Echo Plus also features a built-in climbing hook, allowing for easy attachment to a backpack or other gear. Lastly, these upgrades come in at only $10 more than the base model, putting the T-Echo Plus at a modest $64.22 over the Lilygo site.
