LilyGo K230: Versatile RISC-V mini system launches with keyboard option and LoRa

LilyGo has released a complete kit version of its K230 development system, combining the board with a custom enclosure and an optional matching keyboard. The CoreSet starts at around $150. While the handheld resembles a smartphone, it functions primarily as an expanded development platform rather than a daily mobile phone. Wireless communication relies on LoRa rather than 4G or 5G, enabling long-range data transmission at lower bandwidths than standard Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, though Wi-Fi is also built in.
At its core, the system runs on the Kendryte K230 SoC based on the RISC-V architecture, which includes hardware acceleration for 3D content. An integrated ESP32-S3-R8 coprocessor handles external sensor and actuator interfaces. Physical connectivity includes two USB ports, HDMI, Ethernet, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and a microSD card slot. Visuals are provided by a 4.1-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 568 x 1,232 pixels. In addition to an onboard 2 MP camera, the system features a MIPI CSI interface for connecting external camera modules.
