A massive Xiaomi Mi Pad 5-related leak has revealed the alleged specs and prices for the upcoming tablet. In addition, concept renders of the slate show it following the Mi 11 design language. With a Snapdragon 870 SoC and starting price of 3,999 yuan (US$619), the supposed Mi Pad 5 would be a rival for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7.

Xiaomi has already revealed that there will be a new tablet series coming this year, and a huge leak has now appeared on Chinese social media that contains almost every last detail about the supposed Mi Pad 5 (apart from the launch date). The specs and prices have to be taken with a pinch of salt as they are clearly unconfirmed and could be fan predictions. However, the adjoining unofficial concept renders (with somewhat wonky-looking front screen at bottom right corner in some examples) do offer an interesting possibility that Xiaomi could deck out the Mi Pad 5 in a similar design language as the Mi 11 smartphone, as can be seen with the instantly recognizable main camera housing.

If the specs and prices are at all genuine, then the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 will be a premium tablet ready to take on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7. This would undoubtedly be disappointing news for many who would like a new affordable Android slate from the popular Chinese OEM. The base configuration of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 allegedly has a price of 3,999 yuan (US$619), which is a very high price when you consider that is the supposed China price and not the international market price. However, it lines up conveniently with the base model of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7, which normally starts at US$649.99 (currently on offer at US$599.99). The following comparison table gives some idea of how the purported Mi Pad 5 measures up against one of the best tablets currently available:

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 looks very appealing against the Galaxy Tab S7, although it’s not clear how much the specs would differ between a base model and a potential Mi Pad 5 Pro; there are some blank spaces that still need filling in here. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ has a larger battery (10,090 mAh) and better display (2800x1752 OLED) than the regular Tab S7.

Additional alleged details leaked about the Mi Pad 5 include a 480 Hz touch-sampling rate, aluminum alloy build, and 5x (optical) and 30x (digital) zoom capabilities. But all of these premium goodies come with premium prices, and it seems this potential Android champion contender has a price range (see table below) that will be out of reach for many Xiaomi fans, with the highest figure reaching 5,499 yuan (US$851) for the 16 GB + 1 TB variant.
