Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 stars in conflicting specs leaks as Lite, Plus, and Pro models of the Snapdragon-powered tablet could be released as soon as May
Anticipation has been growing recently for the latest tablet series from Xiaomi, which has not updated its slate offerings since 2018’s Mi Pad 4 Plus. It appears the Chinese OEM will soon rectify that situation by releasing at least three new tablets, which have been widely called “Mi Pad 5” by leakers and tipsters for the time being. Many alleged specs and details have already been leaked, and while there seems to be some consensus about the display, two new leaks have produced conflicting information in regard to processor choice.
According to a Chinese leaker whose Weibo handle can be machine translated as “Stone machine”, there will be three tablets each sporting a different chip. The premium choice Snapdragon 888 would be reserved for a Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro, then there would be a powerful Snapdragon 870 for a Mi Pad 5 Plus device, and the regular Mi Pad 5 tablet would end up sporting a Snapdragon 768G. The tipster admits they don’t know if the information is genuine or not, and admittedly the accompanying poster of an alleged Mi Pad 5 slate looks very suspicious.
The unofficial tablet render in the “leaked” image (see below) seems unimpressive by Xiaomi’s standards, with the company generally enjoying teasing a product with a corner here and edge there before revealing a device in all of its glory. Pinches of salt are definitely required, especially as the screen looks like it could have simply been copied from images of the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold. A potential Mi Pad 5 release date of May 15 is also printed on this particular picture, which seems like a reasonable prediction as leaks and rumors usually start increasing in volume as a product inches closer to being launched.
A more reliable leaker, Xiaomiui, has been digging through code to offer up some differing details. Now we have mention of an Enuma K81 model (Mi Pad 5 Pro?) with a 48 MP main camera and Snapdragon 870, Elish K81 (Mi Pad 5/Mi Pad 5 Plus?) with a 12 MP main camera and Snapdragon 870, and Nabu K82 with 12 MP main camera and Snapdragon 860 (Mi Pad 5/Mi Pad 5 Lite?). Display specs are listed as: IPS, 120 Hz, 2560x800, 410 nits. Apparently, all three Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 tablets get quad-cam setups, NFC support (presumably Chinese market only), four speakers, wireless charging, and dual-cell batteries.
