Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra concept renders showcase new 200MP camera sensor alongside Olympus branding
We reported some time ago that Samsung was planning to work together with Olympus to develop camera hardware for its upcoming flagship smartphones. It is expected to make its debut alongside the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, but there is a chance we could see it earlier with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. The talented folks over at LetsGoDigital were quick to pick up on this and envisioned what the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra could look like via a few concept renders.
Samsung's 108MP ISOCELL sensors will almost certainly be replaced by a 200MP variant, which is likely to be launched later this year. The images created by LetsGoDigital show it taking up a lot of space on the rear camera housing, which also bears Olympus branding. For some reason, only two lenses are pictured here, but the final product will likely feature at least three if not four. It also showcases an obnoxiously large camera bump and a LED flash module. We could even see an under-display selfie camera on the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
However, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra might not be the first smartphone to run the putative 200MP sensor. In all likelihood, it will debut alongside a Xiaomi flagship, presumably the Xiaomi Mi 12. That should give us a good idea about how the lens will perform on its own. The new Olympus-tuned camera system, combined with the AMD Radeon mobile GPU, makes the Galaxy S22 Ultra one of the most highly-anticipated releases of 2022.
