Samsung's 200MP camera sensor could debut alongside a Xiaomi flagship smartphone
Now that the likes of Realme and Redmi have democratized Samsung's 108MP camera sensor, it is time to move over to the next generational leap in smartphone cameras. We reported earlier that Samsung was working on a 200MP camera module. Rumour had it that the sensor would debut alongside the Mi 11 Pro/Ultra, but that turned out to be false, but only partially. Samsung's first-ever 200MP sensor will debut alongside a Xiaomi smartphone if a new leak is true.
Weibo veteran Digital Chat Station (via ITHome) says that Xiaomi and Samsung are working together to develop the world's first-ever smartphone with a 200MP lens. Specifics about the actual camera hardware are sparse, other than the fact that it could be up to 1" in size. We've seen what it could look like in a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra concept render from earlier.
Xiaomi devices have often been the first to run Samsung's new camera sensors, as exhibited by the ISOCELL HMX, which first appeared alongside the Xiaomi Mi 10. If last year's launch cycle is anything to go by, Samsung should unveil the yet-to-be-named 200MP ISOCELL sensor sometime in September 2021 alongside a few lower-specced siblings.
