Xiaomi opens MIUI 12.5 to select Redmi smartphones
Xiaomi has begun rolling out MIUI 12.5 to Redmi handsets on its Chinese MIUI branch. Last week, the company announced that it had opened MIUI 12.5 to seven more devices, although these were all Mi flagships, except for the Mi 9 SE.
According to Xiaomi & MIUI News, Xiaomi has finalised MIUI 12.5 for the Redmi Note 10S ahead of its release. Additionally, Xiaomi has released Stable Beta updates for the Redmi Note 9S, Redmi K40, Redmi K40 Pro and Redmi K40 Pro Plus. Incidentally, the Mi CC9 Meitu Edition has also just received a Stable Beta MIUI 12.5 build.
Unfortunately, it remains unclear when Xiaomi will commence its MIUI 12.5 rollout globally. In February, it announced that it would start rolling out MIUI 12.5 to five handsets as of Q2 2021, with thirteen to follow in late Q2 2021. We can only imagine that Xiaomi meant May instead of Q2 2021, seeing as April draws to a close. Confusingly, the Mi 9 SE is not on either MIUI 12.5 rollout wave, despite having received the OS in China.
