Xiaomi Note 11: Leak raises hype for a world's-first 200 MP camera on Xiaomi's camera-centric phone
Both Samsung and Omnivison have launched 200 MP cameras over the past few months. While neither of those sensors has found their way unto any smartphones, speculation in the wild claims that Xiaomi may kick things off with the Xiaomi Note 11 later this year.
It's important to point out that this appears to be mostly unsubstantiated speculation, although the source, Xiaomiui, is generally reliable and has a good track record with leaks. The rationale behind the speculation is simple: Xiaomi launched the Mi Note 10 as the world's first 108 MP camera phone back in 2019. A 200 MP camera is the next logical step up, and so would have to be on the Xiaomi Note 11. Simple but hardly concrete.
While there's currently not much evidence pointing towards this turning out to be true, a 200 MP camera on a Xiaomi device isn't a ridiculous idea. Early leaks of the Xiaomi 12 indicated that Xiaomi planned to use Samsung's 200 MP HP1 on the flagship but it appears the company shelved those plans in favor of using the 50 MP IMX766. That shows that Xiaomi has no qualms using such a sensor. The company has also shown a penchant for debuting new technology on its phones and would probably love to have the bragging rights that come with launching the world's first 200 MP smartphone. That could be the Xiaomi Note 11, or maybe not. Time will tell.
