Samsung has made the leap to a 200MP in a CMOS image sensor that might appear in its next-gen flagship smartphones. Now, OmniVision has challenged the ISOCELL HP1's potential dominance with the OVB0B at CES 2022. With individual pixels of 0.61 microns (µm) and an overall size of 1/1.28-inches, it just might be the smallest component with its resolution on its release.
OmniVision also claims to have developed "unique" 4x4-cell binning for its first-gen 200MP sensor, rated for 12.5MP recording with pixels scaled up to 2.44µm. This, according to the OEM, will make for class-leading 4K or 2K video, even in low light.
The OVB0B's specs also support 50MP video at 24 frames per second (fps), as well as 30fps in 8K with 1.22µm-equivalent pixels. It is also rated for the OEM's latest PureCel Plus‑S technology and quad PD for its auto-focus properties.
Samsung is projected to launch its first 200MP phone as early as 2023; however, OmniVision did not specify when the new 200MP sensor is to be made available. Then again, it does now have ordering information on its website.
