Alleged live images of the Samsung Galaxy Quantum 2 (or A82) show a disappointing lack of swivel
Samsung broke the Galaxy mould with the A80, taking a chance on many more moving parts than its smartphones normally get. Then again, the distinctive take on the "flip-cam" concept did not get a second outing in 2020. However, certain tips pointed to one for the following year intead, one that just might employ a new design in which a slider could deploy speakers as well as cameras.
These hints were thought to come to fruition in a device called the Galaxy A82 5G, although a subsequent leak indicated it might launch as the Quantum 2 for the South Korean market instead. Then again, this phone's latest purported appearance may dash all hopes of a true second-gen A80.
It shows a profoundly standard 2021 Galaxy A-series phone, triple rear cameras fixed behind large circular lenses and all. This new in-the-wild leak also unambiguously depicts a front panel with a predictable central punch-hole. It also strongly points to an overall footprint comparable to that of a Galaxy S21+.
Therefore, this "Galaxy Quantum 2" apparently promises to be a new mid-range device probably placed just above the A72 in terms of specs. On that note, no part of this new potential spoiler suggests the inclusion of 5G, even though the spec might be confirmed in the A82.
Nevertheless, there is no getting away from the impression of the Quantum 2 as a very-nearly-A72, albeit in white, gleaned from this new set of images. All in all, a break from monotonous candy-bars from any major Android smartphone OEM that is not a foldable may not come with this phone, ostensibly leaving the onus on Asus' ZenFone 8 instead.
