It took Samsung almost three months to bring the Galaxy A80 to market following its announcement in April. The device has not received stellar reviews either, with GSMArena awarding it just 3.5 stars. One point of criticism that the website had of the device was its rotating camera mechanism, which it claimed looked "fragile" and "can drag dust inside the phone".
The Galaxy A80 is still being tested by other reviewers who had worse experiences with its camera system. Ben Sin of Ben's gadget reviews took to Twitter bring attention to his experiences, showing repeated instances of the camera system failing to rotate properly. This appears to be more than one problem too, as the camera either starts to rotate before it is fully exposed or does not do so fully when the motorised mechanism has brought the camera into view. The effect can be seen below, with the camera either sticking just beneath the screen or not flipping around correctly.
SamMobile have had similar experiences too with their loaner device, while Max J of Samsung News has stated that the motor inside his is "noisy as hell". We are still awaiting comment from Samsung Mobile about the issue and whether these are just a few rogue units. We suspect that the latter is the case as Ben Sin claims in the video below to have had no camera issues when trying out in-store models. Still, we doubt that Samsung wants this kind of PR right now, especially in the wake of the Galaxy Fold and with the Note 10 on the horizon.
