Mi Mix Alpha-grade screens could arrive on laptops soon
Xiaomi may have ushered in a whole new era of smartphone design with the Mi Mix Alpha, a device in which a 7.92-inch flexible OLED panel occupies nearly the whole outer face of its chassis. It has been described as a concept device, but will also be a saleable product, albeit at very high prices in very small quantities. The OEM that stands to gain from this business may also have introduced a relatively new and potentially powerful player into the display game.
It is the company Visionox, which, unlike most better-known manufacturers in this market, is based in China. MyDrivers has reported that it has recently put over 1 billion yuan into its next upcoming production line at its Guanzhou facility. This line will reportedly scale the size of the resulting panels up to as much as 18 inches per unit.
Visionox has partially funded this new line itself, with help from Guanzhou state bodies and publically-sourced capital. Therefore, it may now be in a position to tender for the next generations of devices such as Asus' dual-display notebooks, as well as completely novel innovations that could integrate foldable or flexible screens in a less restricted range of dimensions.
This, then, could also help Visionox become a real headache for established or emerging organizations in similar arenas, such as LG, Sharp, BOE and Samsung.
