Mangmi has announced that the Pocket Max handheld will allow users to easily swap the D-Pad and ABXY buttons. While not a unique feature, Mangmi says this is the first time it will be seen on an Android-powered handheld.

Mangmi has released another teaser revealing a unique feature available on its upcoming handheld, the Pocket Max. According to the manufacturer, this feature is one that has never been seen before on an Android-powered handheld.

Posting on its social media channels, Mangmi has revealed that the Pocket Max will have modular magnetic buttons. In the attached image, the Mangmi Pocket Max is shown with its D-Pad and ABXY buttons removed. This design will allow users to swap either controls for a different type, such as a different layout for the ABXY buttons or a touchpad instead of a D-Pad.

Mangmi hasn't revealed which modules it will release alongside the handheld, or if third-party manufacturers will be able to release custom modular controls for the Pocket Max. However, it has released a YouTube short showing how easy it is for users to swap out the controls.

While the Mangmi Pocket Max claims to be the first Android handheld with modular controls, it isn't the first handheld with the feature. The Windows-powered Ayaneo 3 has modular controls too, and unlike the Pocket Max which limits the modular feature to just the D-Pad and ABXY buttons, the Ayaneo 3 (available on Amazon for $1,799) lets you change the joysticks too.

In addition to the modular controls, Mangmi also revealed on its Discord channel that it plans to launch the Pocket Max on its website rather than a crowdfunding platform such as Kickstarter. However, it hasn't yet decided a release date for the handheld yet.

Earlier this week, Mangmi revealed the processor that powers the Pocket Max. It has also disclosed the handheld's display specifications and the colors it will be available in.
